A hit-and-run on San Antonio’s East Side left a woman and a man seriously injured Sunday, and the driver who caused the wreck is still on the run, according to police.
The collision happened at the intersection of North Cherry Street and Nolan Street, where two vehicles collided and one driver took off instead of stopping to help.
As reported by News 4 San Antonio, the crash occurred when another driver attempted to turn left onto Nolan Street and struck the vehicle carrying the victims. Both were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and police had not made any arrests.
What Police Are Investigating
San Antonio police said they did not yet have suspect information and that detectives were processing the scene for evidence. They are working to identify the fleeing vehicle and the person behind the wheel.
Investigators say neighbors or passing drivers who may have dash-cam or surveillance video could be key to tracking down the suspect.
Leaving the Scene Carries Legal Risk
Under Texas law, drivers involved in crashes that cause injury or death are required to stop, exchange information and render aid. Walking or driving away is not just callous, it can be criminal.
When serious injury is involved, failing to stop can result in felony charges. For the specific statutes on what drivers must do after a collision and the penalties for ignoring those duties, see Justia.
How To Help Investigators
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video from the area is urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
