After a decade of bright glazes and over-the-top toppings on North St. Mary's, The Art of Donut is calling it quits in San Antonio. The owners announced on Tuesday that the River Road shop will serve its last batch on Friday, June 26, capping 10 years on the strip with what they teased as "an exciting new adventure in a different city." Regulars can probably count on early sellouts as fans swing by for one last box.
Farewell Tour Announced on Instagram
In a Tuesday Instagram post, The Art of Donut thanked customers for a decade of support and said the team will share "updates on our next chapter" as they prepare to leave San Antonio. The caption set Friday, June 26 as the final day of service at the River Road location and urged followers to stay tuned to find out where the owners land next.
From First Food Truck to Neighborhood Fixture
Co-founders Andrea Aguirre and Miguel Aja launched The Art of Donut in 2016 as San Antonio's first crafted donut food truck, then moved into a brick-and-mortar shop less than a year later, according to MySA. Their playful menu — from the maple-bacon "Sweet Pig" to cereal-topped creations and other eye-catching combos — helped turn the North St. Mary's spot into a go-to stop for morning sugar fixes and late-night cravings alike.
Local Favorite With National Shout-Outs
The shop's press page notes features in USA Today and Zagat (Art of Donut), a testament to how its quirky flavors traveled far beyond the River Road corridor. Hoodline later included The Art of Donut in a guide to the 3 most popular spots in River Road, underscoring how the shop helped put that stretch near the zoo and Japanese Tea Gardens on the map for donut runs.
Next Chapter Still Under Wraps
MySA reported that it reached out to The Art of Donut for more details on the move but did not hear back at the time of publication. The Instagram announcement, however, promised more news soon about where the owners are headed. For now, the North St. Mary's counter will stay open through Friday, June 26, giving fans one last shot at the colorful, creative donuts that turned the tiny shop into a local favorite over the past decade.
