Authorities in Guadalupe County say a Seguin man who allegedly spent more than a month dodging a manslaughter warrant is now behind bars in connection with a deadly March motorcycle wreck.
Deputy constables on Tuesday arrested Richard Wayne Klatt on a manslaughter warrant tied to a March collision in Guadalupe County that killed his motorcycle passenger. Officials say Klatt had known about the warrant and avoided arrest for more than a month before deputies finally tracked him down.
According to the Seguin Gazette, county deputy constables executed the warrant and transported Klatt to custody. The paper reports that the manslaughter warrant stems from the investigation into the March wreck that left his passenger dead and notes the case is documented with a photograph and brief summary details.
Deputies Track Down Suspect After Warrant Issued
The Seguin Gazette reports that deputies had been tracking Klatt before taking him into custody and moving him to the county detention facility. The outlet quoted officials as saying, “He knew he had a warrant after the wreck and avoided apprehension longer than a month.”
Felony Charge Under Texas Law
Manslaughter is defined in the Texas Penal Code and is prosecuted as a felony. Texas law also sets out a separate intoxication-specific offense for deaths caused by impaired driving, which is likewise a felony, in Texas Penal Code provisions that govern intoxication manslaughter.
Both statutes carry felony penalties and outline different elements that prosecutors must prove in court.
Case Now Moves Into Guadalupe County Courts
As the case proceeds through the Guadalupe County court system, public court records and the county jail roster are expected to show Klatt’s booking details, bond information, and any scheduled hearings. The Seguin Gazette noted that its initial report did not include bond or arraignment information.
