What started as a domestic assault call on a quiet stretch of Cass City Road turned into an eight-hour standoff last Saturday, ending late that night when a Michigan State Police tactical team pulled a barricaded suspect from a home and took him into custody.
Troopers say the Cass City man had armed himself with a shotgun and refused to come out of a residence on the 7000 block of Cass City Road. The Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team ultimately removed him from the house at about 10:50 p.m., bringing the long-running incident to a close.
Timeline and police response
Michigan State Police troopers from the Caro post were called to the home around 3 p.m. last Saturday after a report of a felonious domestic assault, according to a press release cited by WNEM. Troopers made contact with the suspect, who then barricaded himself inside the residence.
How the scene unfolded
State police said the suspect was armed with a shotgun and that members of the MSP Emergency Support Team worked through the evening to safely take him into custody, WNEM reported. Authorities told the outlet the incident was contained to the residence, and they urged people to avoid the area while operations continued.
Next steps
Troopers are continuing to investigate, and the suspect is expected to be arraigned today in Tuscola County District Court, the Huron Daily Tribune reports. As of this morning, police had not released the suspect’s name or additional details about potential charges.
