Outside BBQ, the Tampa-born barbecue brand that started out slinging ribs from a food truck, is in the middle of a big shuffle as it fans the flames across the bay. Owner Jevonta “Tay” Godwin is steering the business away from a primarily to-go setup and toward more full-service restaurants, and the company says another outpost is on deck. The moves will change where the brand shows up in Tampa Bay while keeping its catering and food-truck roots firmly in play.
Those plans were reported by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, which noted that Outside BBQ intends to relocate its Tampa operations and open a fourth location in the coming months. The outlet describes the shift as part of a push into larger dining rooms and expanded service options.
From Tent To Table
Godwin has often talked about the brand’s climb from a weekend tent-and-truck hustle to a daily, high-volume to-go counter and now to multiple brick-and-mortar spots. He walked through that evolution and the operational strain that came with it on the No Chaser podcast, explaining how customer demand nudged the business to scale up. That conversation helps explain why Outside BBQ is now hunting for larger spaces and reorganizing its Tampa footprint, as covered by the No Chaser Podcast.
Beachside And Bayside Expansion
The chain has already pushed beyond Tampa proper. Earlier this year it opened a spot on St. Pete Beach, giving beachgoers a new place to chase smoke and sauce. That debut was reported by St. Pete Catalyst. The brand is also converting a Tarpon Springs property into a full-service Outside BBQ and bar, according to plans outlined by Business Debut.
Tampa Takeout Stays Put - For Now
Even as leadership eyes a relocation, Outside BBQ’s official site still lists its to-go counter on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard with regular operating hours, signaling that the current storefront is open while the search for a new space continues. The site also highlights catering services, delivery partners and events that are helping fuel the brand’s broader expansion. Details on locations and hours are posted on Outside BBQ’s website.
What Diners Should Expect Next
Looking ahead, Godwin told Business Debut, “We’re going to have bartenders, servers, in-house dining, takeout, and delivery service.” The Tampa Bay Business Journal reports that the fourth location is expected to open in the coming months, although the company has not announced a specific date.
