Thick smoke over North 127th Street early Monday brought a swarm of fire engines to a Brookfield structure fire, with New Berlin crews called in to help shoulder the load at 4725 N. 127th St, according to the New Berlin Fire Department. Multiple departments worked the scene as firefighters pushed to get the blaze under control, and officials said it was too early to release any information about injuries or a possible cause.
Mutual aid under MABAS Division 106
Behind the scenes, the Waukesha County Communications Center helps pull in extra help through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, Division 106. As explained by Waukesha County Communications, Division 106 uses pre-scripted box cards to quickly request additional engines, ladder trucks or water tenders when a local department is stretched thin.
New Berlin confirms scene and role
In a Facebook update from the New Berlin Fire Department, officials said their crews were “assisting the City of Brookfield Fire Department” at 4725 N. 127th St and confirmed the call as a structure fire. Brookfield remains the lead agency, and its fire department lists station details and response resources on its website at City of Brookfield Fire Department.
Recent local fire activity
This latest call lands in what has already been a busy fire year for Brookfield. The city was dealing with a New Year’s Eve fire at Mr. B’s steakhouse, reported by WTMJ, followed by a deadly house fire covered by CBS58. As previously noted in Hoodline coverage of a February call where New Berlin crews backed up Brookfield firefighters, mutual aid has become a familiar tool on larger incidents.
Where to look for updates
Once the smoke clears, fire investigators are expected to go through the scene and release findings when they are ready. For official information on the Brookfield response, residents can watch for updates on the City of Brookfield Fire Department’s site at City of Brookfield Fire Department or follow the Waukesha County Communications pages at Waukesha County Communications.
