A family dispute between two adult brothers in southeast Houston turned deadly Friday night when one of the men was shot and later died, according to police. The confrontation moved out into the street in the 2500 block of Craigmont Street near Telephone Road, where the surviving brother was detained by responding officers. Authorities say the case is still under active investigation.
What Police Say Happened
Officers with the Houston Police Department’s Southeast Patrol Division were called around 8 p.m. to the 2500 block of Craigmont Street, near Telephone Road, according to Click2Houston. Investigators said an argument between the brothers escalated into a physical struggle after both men produced weapons.
"Detectives are still working to determine who had which weapon and when during the incident," investigators said, according to Click2Houston. Police said the suspected shooter initially fled on foot but was later apprehended.
How This Fits Into a Troubling Pattern
The case adds to a recent string of family-related violence in the Houston area. A crawfish-boil shooting on June 7 left one person dead and another critically injured, and deputies investigated a June 10 incident in which a mother and her teenage son were found shot to death, according to the Houston Chronicle.
