
An overnight ride on Jacksonville’s Southside ended in tragedy on June 21, 2024, when a motorcyclist was killed in a crash, authorities said. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews rushed to Shad Road near the intersection of 103rd Street and Moncrief Road, where first responders pronounced the rider dead at the scene. The collision briefly shut down lanes and snarled rush-hour traffic while investigators worked to clear the roadway.
As reported by First Coast News, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel confirmed the motorcyclist died at the scene, and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation. Officials had not released the victim's identity as of the initial report.
Traffic deaths remain a local problem
Local reporting has highlighted a string of deadly crashes across Duval County in recent months. News4JAX reported that 2024 saw roughly 145 crash-related deaths in Jacksonville, 27 of them involving motorcycles. First Coast News reports that the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office traffic investigators remained on scene and are asking any witnesses or drivers with dash-cam or surveillance footage to contact detectives. As of the initial report, no arrests or charges had been announced.
