What began as a routine welfare check in Statesville last Thursday quickly turned into a full-on criminal case. Two men were arrested, officers seized multiple firearms and suspected cocaine, and a juvenile from the home was turned over to county social services. Authorities say it all started with an anonymous tip that mentioned possible drugs in the house and concerns about a child's safety.
Charges, Arrests and Bonds
Deputies arrested Dylan Matthew Truitt at his Valley Street home. He is charged with felony exposing a child to a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor child abuse.
Carlos Manuel Giron is charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Giron is currently on probation for a prior felony possession of cocaine and an attempted possession of a firearm by a felon. A magistrate set Truitt's bond at $75,000 and Giron's bond at $10,000, according to WCNC.
Sheriff's Office Response
The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has been busy with narcotics work this year, and this latest case fits a pattern. In recent months, deputies have run several operations that led to drug and firearm seizures and children being removed from homes for their safety. Those prior cases show how the sheriff's office often teams up with partner agencies when serving search warrants, tackling both suspected trafficking and child-welfare issues at the same time, as outlined by Iredell Free News.
How Police Say It Unfolded
According to investigators, the case started with an anonymous tip that alleged drugs were inside the Valley Street residence and that a juvenile there might be in danger. That tip triggered the initial welfare check, which then led to a more intensive narcotics investigation.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the home last Thursday and reported seizing multiple firearms, cocaine and various pieces of drug paraphernalia. A juvenile from the residence was placed in the custody of the Iredell County Department of Social Services, and both Truitt and Giron were taken into custody. Police say they have identified a third person believed to be involved and that an active warrant for that individual is still outstanding, according to WCNC.
Local Law-Enforcement Context
These arrests are part of a broader push on narcotics enforcement in Iredell County this spring. The sheriff's office, often working alongside state investigators, has handled several multi-agency cases aimed at dismantling trafficking networks and getting children out of risky environments.
Recent releases from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office describe seizures of cocaine, fentanyl and firearms in Statesville and neighboring communities. Local coverage by WBTV has highlighted similar busts involving significant quantities of illegal drugs and guns.
Legal Implications
Exposing a child to controlled substances and felony drug possession are serious felony charges that can carry substantial prison time if a defendant is convicted. Prosecutors will now review the investigative file before any formal indictments are pursued.
The magistrate set secured bonds for both men during their initial processing, and the case is expected to move through the local court system in the coming weeks. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the ongoing investigation or the outstanding warrant to contact the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, saying detectives are still following leads and working to pull together the full picture of what happened inside the Valley Street home.
