A months-long hunt for a suspect in a Stockton killing ended on a quiet Nevada County roadside on June 1, when deputies pulled over a vehicle and arrested a 44-year-old man wanted in connection with a March shooting. He was later booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on a homicide charge, authorities said.
Stockton police had been searching for Daniel Paradiso since March 22, when officers were called around 1:50 p.m. to the intersection of South El Dorado Street and East Hazelton Avenue. There, they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound; he later died at a nearby hospital, according to CBS Sacramento. Detectives identified Paradiso as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Victim identified
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 69-year-old Jack Wesby Jr., The Stockton Record reported. The paper's homicide tracker notes that Stockton has recorded multiple killings this year, and both investigators and Wesby's relatives have urged anyone with information to contact Stockton Crime Stoppers at 209-946-0600.
Traffic stop and booking
Nevada County Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle on June 1 and took Paradiso into custody during the traffic enforcement, according to CBS Sacramento. He was then transported back to Stockton and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on a homicide charge while detectives continue to work the case.
What happens next
Paradiso remains behind bars as prosecutors review the case. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office will decide on formal charges and set an arraignment date. In the meantime, investigators are still gathering evidence and again asked witnesses to contact the Stockton Police Department or submit anonymous tips to Stockton Crime Stoppers, as noted by The Stockton Record.
