Two people landed in handcuffs and a building was cleared out Friday after Las Vegas police recovered a stolen car in the northwest valley, authorities said.
Police Response Near Rainbow and Cheyenne
According to KSNV, officers spotted the stolen vehicle in the 3100 block of North Rainbow Drive near West Cheyenne Avenue. Police watched as two people got out of the car and went into a nearby building.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department then set up action teams and moved in, taking both individuals into custody without incident while the building was evacuated as a precaution, KSNV reported. The suspects have not been publicly identified, and it was not immediately clear what charges they may face.
The investigation remains active, and authorities asked people to avoid the area while officers and other crews worked the scene.

Why It Matters
The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports Nevada logged about 394 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents in 2024 and saw a significant year-over-year decline. Even with that drop, the state still ranks among those with higher per capita auto theft rates, which helps explain why a recovered stolen car can quickly draw a strong police response.
How to Protect Your Car
Metro's auto theft guidance leans on simple habits that go a long way: lock your vehicle, take your keys, park in well lit areas and consider using anti-theft devices. The department notes it recovers roughly 75 percent of stolen vehicles, most within seven days.
