A quick grocery stop in Tacoma just turned into a life-changing windfall. A shopper who bought a Mega Millions ticket in the city is now $100,000 richer after a 10x multiplier supercharged their win. The ticket matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in the June 9 drawing, a combo that usually pays $10,000 before the multiplier, and the boosted prize landed at a cool six figures. The lucky slip was sold at a Fred Meyer grocery store on South 19th Street in Tacoma.
Where the ticket was sold
A Washington’s Lottery spokesperson told The News Tribune that the winning ticket was purchased at Fred Meyer, 6901 South 19th St. in Tacoma. The retailer’s online store listing identifies the James Center Fred Meyer at that address and notes it sells lottery tickets; see Kroger.
Winning numbers and jackpot
The winning numbers in the June 9 drawing were 9, 30, 36, 38 and 40, with a Mega Ball of 3. Washington’s Lottery lists those numbers and shows the jackpot at $413 million with a $182.60 million cash option.
How the multiplier turned $10,000 into $100,000
Under Mega Millions rules, matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball pays a $10,000 base prize. A randomly assigned multiplier printed on each ticket can increase non‑jackpot prizes by up to 10x, so a 10x multiplier turns $10,000 into $100,000. The game’s prize table also notes the odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 290,472,336.
Next drawing, odds and help

Washington’s Lottery did not identify the buyer in its statement to The News Tribune. The Lottery generally posts validated winners on its winners page once prizes are claimed and confirmed.
