Friday, June 26, 2026 — Tampa stepped out the door to mostly clear skies, thick humidity and about 77°F this morning, and that muggy feel is sticking around. Through the weekend, highs will run near 95°F and heat-index values will climb into the low to mid 100s each afternoon. Overnight lows only dip into the mid to upper 70s, so even mornings and nights stay sticky. That kind of heat makes midday outdoor plans uncomfortable and raises the risk of heat-related illness for anyone working or exercising outside.
Weekend Heat And Storms
According to the National Weather Service, highs should top out near 95°F with heat-index readings between about 100°F and 107°F through the weekend. Forecasters also expect scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, mainly over the interior and along west coast sea-breeze collisions, with localized heavy downpours and 0.25 to 0.5 inch totals possible in the stronger cells. Daily rain chances run roughly 40 to 70 percent, and brief, strong storms could slow evening commutes.
Cooling Options
With the heat showing little sign of easing, the city activated air-conditioned cooling stations earlier this week for residents without reliable AC, and officials are encouraging people to sign up for HEATSAFE alerts. Local coverage lists the sites and the initial hours; FOX 13 Tampa Bay has the initial details. Call 311 or check official city pages for current locations and times if you need a place to cool off.
Plan Ahead
Aim to avoid outdoor exertion during the peak heat of the day, drink plenty of water, and push strenuous activity to early morning or evening whenever possible. Pop-up storms can drop heavy rain in a hurry, so keep an umbrella in the car and allow extra travel time for evening errands. Boaters should check the marine forecast before launching; outside of storms, winds are expected to remain light and seas small, but thunderstorms can still create sudden hazardous conditions.
