How deputies tracked the suspect
Deputies said the aviation crew provided an overhead view that let ground units tighten the search area in the thick brush near the roadway. That tag-team work between air and ground units, according to the sheriff's office, was key to making a quick arrest instead of a long overnight manhunt.
Local context
The Seffner case lands amid a run of early-summer fights and stabbings across Hillsborough County. In May, a Rivergate Drive argument led to a stabbing that sent a woman to the hospital and resulted in attempted-murder charges.
Charges and victim condition
Per the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Purcell faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery and possession of a controlled substance, and reportedly had several out-of-county warrants. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and detectives are continuing to work the case.
What the charges mean
Under Florida law, aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony, according to Florida Statutes §784.045. Possession-related offenses are outlined in Florida Statutes §893.13, with penalties that depend on the specific substance and circumstances.
Investigation ongoing
The sheriff's office released the initial details of the arrest on its social channel and said the investigation remains active. Formal charges, booking information and any upcoming court dates will appear in public records as detectives and prosecutors continue their work on the case.
