A deadly East Side shooting has led to the arrest of a teenager, Columbus police said today, as homicide detectives continue to piece together what happened. The teen suspect was taken into custody in connection with the killing, but authorities have not yet released the suspect's name or the charges, and say the investigation is still very much active. Detectives are urging anyone who might know something to contact the Homicide Unit.
Arrest reported Sunday
The arrest was first reported today by NBC4, which said detectives took a juvenile into custody after following leads in the homicide investigation. According to the station's video report, officials released few details about the scene and did not identify either the victim or the suspect. Investigators described the case as active and said they are still developing leads.
Police ask for tips
Columbus police are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS, according to the Division's media releases. The Division posts case updates and contact details for tips on the city's website for ongoing investigations. As outlined by the Columbus Division of Police, detectives handle investigative follow-up on homicide cases.
Where this fits locally
The arrest comes as city leaders push to reduce violent crime and speed up investigations through targeted police units and partnerships. "That number stands at 21 - the lowest year‑to‑date homicide total in at least 26 years," Mayor Andrew Ginther's office wrote in a May press release about policing progress. Police officials said each case remains a priority and again urged residents with tips to step forward.
