
A late-night argument between roommates in Houston’s South Central area ended in deadly gunfire Saturday, when a man was shot once in the chest inside a home on Vassar Street, police said.
Officers were called around 11:55 p.m. to the 1600 block of Vassar, where they found the man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Houston Fire Department crews pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators said the men lived together and were friends, and that a suspect was quickly taken into custody.
Suspect Held After Late-Night Shooting
"One thing or another transpired tonight to where the suspect took out a firearm and shot the victim in the chest one time," HPD Lt. Ali told reporters at the scene, according to Click2Houston. The station reports that police have not yet released the identities of the victim or the person detained, as detectives sort out exactly what led up to the gunfire.
Roommate Conflicts Turning Lethal
The Vassar Street killing follows a string of recent roommate-related homicides in the region. On June 10, deputies charged a roommate in a northwest Harris County shooting tied to an argument over rent, according to ABC13, highlighting how domestic tensions have been boiling over in deadly ways this month.

Authorities said it was not yet clear whether formal charges had been filed in the Vassar Street case and asked anyone with information to contact Houston police, according to Click2Houston.
