
What started as a quiet Thursday afternoon near South Seattle College quickly turned chaotic when a house in the 5600 block of 16th Ave SW went up in flames, sending a column of smoke towering over West Seattle. Seattle Fire crews rushed to the scene as thick, dark smoke poured from the structure and spread across the neighborhood skyline.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, arriving units reported “heavy fire and smoke” as they moved in to knock down the flames. Firefighters quickly got water on the fire and called for additional companies to back them up. The department’s dispatch feed showed multiple engines and ladder companies heading to the scene as the response ramped up.

Local reports and on-the-ground tips to neighborhood outlet West Seattle Blog described smoke visible for miles and noted that crews requested “a few more crews” while working to extinguish the blaze.
