Body-camera video out of Yulee this week shows Nassau County Sheriff’s deputies sprinting into a smoke-choked home and pulling an elderly man to safety after a kitchen fire that broke out on Tuesday. Firefighters later went in to rescue the family dog and knock down the flames, and authorities say no one was injured. The close-up footage captures tense minutes as deputies push through thick smoke to get the homeowner out.
As reported by First Coast News, the deputies had been responding to an unrelated call when they pulled up to a house on Red Holly Place and spotted heavy smoke. The video shows them briefly entering the home, then circling to the backyard where they find the man and escort him away from the danger.
Bodycam Shows Deputies Racing Through Smoke
News4Jax published the bodycam clip and reports that Nassau County Fire Rescue crews arrived soon after, carried the dog out, and extinguished flames that were contained to the kitchen. Sheriff Bill Leeper, in comments included in that coverage, praised the deputies’ response, saying their courage, quick thinking, and commitment to protecting others helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
Not Alone: Rescues Caught On Camera Across Florida
A similar deputy rescue in Ormond Beach in May, covered by WESH, is one of several recent examples of body-worn cameras capturing first responders rushing into burning homes across Florida. The clips offer a close look at how quickly officers can change the outcome of a household emergency.
Officials have not released the deputies’ names, and local coverage says the blaze was contained to the kitchen and that no one was hurt, according to News4Jax. The footage is now available from local outlets for public viewing and has drawn praise for the quick work by both deputies and firefighters.
