
What started as a days-long domestic assault in rural St. Clair County ended in an unlikely getaway attempt, with troopers saying a 27-year-old Allenton-area man tried to escape on a golf cart before being caught and later arraigned in court. The alleged victim told authorities she endured repeated physical attacks over several days before police were finally called to the home.
Troopers Called To Holmes Road Home
Michigan State Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Holmes Road in Berlin Township at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, where they say they soon located the suspect and took him into custody nearby, according to the Detroit Free Press. The address is in the Allenton area, roughly 50 miles north of Detroit.
State Police Detail Assault And Phone Shooting
According to Michigan State Police, the man had been beating and strangling his girlfriend over several days and at one point fired a pistol at her phone to stop her from calling 911. Troopers say that when they arrived at the property, the suspect tried to get away on a golf cart but was taken into custody a short distance from the home, based on department statements (Michigan State Police).
Charges Filed In 72nd District Court
The 27-year-old St. Clair County man was arraigned in 72nd District Court, where he now faces charges that include felonious assault, interfering with electronic communications, reckless use of a firearm, malicious destruction of property, and obstruction of justice, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.
