A tense AMBER Alert that stretched across multiple California counties ended with relief today, after authorities found a three-month-old Hayward baby safe in West Los Angeles and took his mother into custody.
The infant, identified as Maxence Sirois, had last been seen on Sunday around 1:00 PM. According to a court-ordered custody agreement, his mother, 42-year-old Marina Kazakova, was supposed to return him to his father but did not, prompting a child abduction investigation, per the Hayward Police Department. Investigators believed she was driving a white 2016 Mazda CX-5 with California license plate 7SJW989.
Early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol issued a regional AMBER Alert on Hayward’s behalf and asked residents in Alameda, San Joaquin, Kern and Los Angeles counties to keep an eye out for the baby and the SUV, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The alert blasted out the child’s description and the vehicle information now familiar to drivers across the region.
How The AMBER Alert Unfolded
Within hours of the alert going public, officers and CHP units tracked down the white Mazda in West Los Angeles. ABC7 reported that the SUV was spotted parked in the 1000 block of Wilshire Boulevard, near the federal building just east of the 405, with aerial footage capturing multiple CHP vehicles swarming the area.
Officers soon located Kazakova nearby and took her into custody. The baby was found unharmed, and officials said arrangements were underway to reunite Maxence with his father. The CHP later deactivated the AMBER Alert after the successful recovery, according to the Los Angeles Times.
What Happens Next In The Case
Hayward police said Kazakova failed to return Maxence to his father under the existing custody order on June 30 and released a case number for anyone with additional information, per the Hayward Police Department. Investigators have not yet released details on potential formal criminal charges and said the case remains active.
Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Hayward Police Department and reference report number 2026-035385.
