A 62-year-old Bronx man has died weeks after a street confrontation where a stranger punched him, leaving him with a severe head injury that he never recovered from, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Ming Zhang He, was hurt on June 12 during an encounter on Walton Avenue near East Mount Eden Avenue in the Concourse section of the Bronx, police said. The punch left He with a gash to his head, and he was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center. He remained hospitalized for more than two weeks before dying on June 30, according to investigators. Police arrested 27-year-old Carlos Valentin on an attempted murder charge, and he was awaiting arraignment, as reported by the New York Post.
He was taken to Lincoln Medical Center, a city-run hospital in the South Bronx. Lincoln Medical Center lists its address as 234 East 149th Street and operates a busy emergency department that handles trauma cases in the borough, according to its public listing; see NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln Medical Center.
Legal Status And Next Steps
Following He’s death, NYPD officials say the Bronx district attorney’s office is working with detectives to decide whether the attempted murder charge against Valentin should be upgraded. Valentin was still awaiting arraignment as of July 1, and prosecutors are expected to review medical and forensic findings before making any charging decision, according to the New York Post.
Investigation Ongoing
