Before dawn on Saturday, a tense confrontation at a West Side apartment complex on San Antonio's Cable Ranch Road turned violent when a man allegedly opened fire through a front door, leaving three people hurt by shrapnel.
Police say officers were called to the 1600 block of Cable Ranch Road around 3:20 a.m. for reports of a disturbance. Witnesses told investigators that a 25-year-old man had forced his way into the apartment, only to be pushed back out by bystanders. When he tried to force his way in again, he allegedly fired multiple shots through the closed door, hitting a 24-year-old woman and two witnesses with shrapnel, then took off before officers arrived.
According to Fox San Antonio, the victims were treated for shrapnel wounds, and police had not released the suspect's name as of early Saturday. The station reports witnesses at the scene helped push the man out of the unit before he came back and opened fire.
Similar incidents reported locally
San Antonio has seen a run of “shots-through-doors” confrontations in recent months. On May 31, for instance, KSAT reported that a man was shot multiple times on Ingram Road after refusing to let a stranger into his residence. Incidents like these show how a dispute at the threshold of a home can escalate in seconds into a dangerous scene for both residents and responding officers.
