Cohen Orthopedic is racking up national hardware just as it gears up for a massive expansion on Chillicothe’s edge. The practice has been named a 2026 Surgical Robotics Industry Award winner while it moves ahead with plans for the Great Seal Medical Center, a new medical campus outside the city. Initial infrastructure work is slated to begin in early July, with a public groundbreaking expected later in 2026, a one-two punch that signals a significant bet on regional surgical care.

National honor for robotic care

The Surgical Robotics Industry Awards have selected Cohen Orthopedic as the 2026 Outstanding Healthcare Provider, a peer-voted recognition that highlights standouts in robotic-assisted surgery and efforts to boost patient outcomes, according to Surgical Robotics Technology. The honor focuses on practices using robotics to sharpen precision in the operating room, tailor surgical plans to each patient and support faster recoveries.

Great Seal Medical Center moves into construction

Cohen Orthopedic is pushing ahead with the Great Seal Medical Center, a multi-building healthcare campus designed to widen access to advanced services across southern Ohio, according to The Chillicothe Gazette. The project centers on roughly 47 acres off River Road across from Adena Regional Medical Center and is planned to include medical office space along with an ambulatory surgery center, per Scioto Post.

Cohen credits team and community

In announcing the award, Dr. Brian Cohen pointed the spotlight back on staff, patients and local partners, saying, “Receiving this award for a second time is a tremendous honor and a testament to the dedication of our entire team,” according to Cohen Orthopedic’s statement shared with the Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce. The practice framed the recognition as fuel for its plans to expand services on the upcoming Great Seal campus.

What robotic-assisted surgery means here

Cohen Orthopedic has been an early adopter of Stryker’s MAKO robotic-arm platform, which the practice says allows surgeons to fine-tune implant positioning and make intraoperative decisions aimed at improving outcomes, according to i ts technology overview on Cohen Orthopedic. Industry coverage notes that Dr. Cohen has performed more than 3,000 MAKO-assisted hip, knee and revision procedures, a figure highlighted in the awards rundown from Surgical Robotics Technology.

Local impact and next steps

Project supporters say the new campus is expected to bring hundreds of jobs along with added outpatient surgical capacity. Local reporting has estimated more than 600 full-time positions and over 100 seasonal jobs tied to the development, according to Scioto Post. Plans and architectural materials show the campus anchored by a medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center, per the project listing from TC.Design, with infrastructure work scheduled to kick off in early July and an official groundbreaking set for later in 2026.
