Two 13-year-olds were arrested by Baltimore County police after a pair of armed carjackings last Saturday, according to authorities. One carjacking was reported in Owings Mills and the other in Towson, and officers later tracked the suspects to Woodlawn, police said.
As reported by WBFF, both incidents happened last Saturday, with one near Greenspring Valley Road and Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills and the other near York Road and Towsontown Boulevard in Towson. Authorities told the outlet that officers later located the two suspects in the 2000 block of Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn. Police said the investigation remains active.
Where Police Say The Stops Happened
The Owings Mills intersection is a heavily traveled corridor, and the Towson location sits close to commercial and commuter routes. Police say those kinds of high-traffic spots can make it easier for quick, opportunistic crimes and have left vehicle owners and nearby shoppers on edge, especially in the summer. For a broader context on regional vehicle-theft patterns and how local departments are responding, WBAL has reported that police are distributing steering-wheel locks and urging software upgrades for certain vehicle models.
What Happens Next For Juvenile Suspects
Because both arrestees are 13, their cases move into Maryland’s juvenile-intake system and the Department of Juvenile Services, which can either divert complaints or refer them to court depending on intake findings. Maryland DJS notes that intake decisions can range from diversion and community supervision to formal petitions and, in some situations, detention.
Under state rules, certain violent offenses, including carjacking, fall into a category of crimes that can trigger adult-court jurisdiction, although there are transfer and reverse-waiver mechanisms that can move cases back to juvenile court. A legal analysis of Maryland’s automatic-charging framework explains how those exclusions operate, see DigitalCommons@UM Carey Law for more details.
Baltimore County police did not immediately release the names of the youths or the specific charges. Investigators asked anyone with information about the carjackings to contact county detectives and said they are continuing to follow leads as the case develops.
