An NYPD officer was shot early Sunday in Crown Heights after responding to a 911 call, then rushed to a nearby hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. The intersection where it happened was quickly locked down as detectives got to work, combing the scene for clues in the early-morning quiet.
According to News12 New York, officers were called at about 4:14 a.m. for reports of shots fired at Nostrand Avenue and St. Johns Place. News12 New York reports the officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment and that the investigation remains active.
St. Johns Place And Nostrand: A Troubled Stretch
The blocks around St. Johns Place and Nostrand have been rattled by several violent incidents this spring, from daytime shots outside a firehouse to late-night sidewalk gunfire that has neighbors on edge. In late May, gunfire outside a Crown Heights firehouse led officers to seal off the block and canvass for surveillance video and witnesses.
Investigation And How To Help
Police have not released the injured officer's name or identified any suspects, News12 New York reported, as detectives continue to work through physical evidence and eyewitness accounts.
Anyone with information or video related to the shooting is urged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, according to the NYPD.
