Dallas is already starting Thursday in full-on steam mode, with a muggy 81°F reading at Dallas Love Field this morning. The forecast calls for a high near 97°F today and heat index values topping out around 101°F. Skies should stay mostly sunny for much of the day, with just a slight chance of late-afternoon showers or isolated thunderstorms after 4 p.m.
Afternoon Storm Chance
That small, roughly 20% chance of showers and storms is focused mainly east of I-35/35E, where a weak easterly wave could tug seabreeze storms a bit farther inland. Any storms that do pop are expected to be isolated and short-lived.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, seasonably hot and humid conditions will stick around through the holiday weekend, with highs mostly in the mid to upper 90s and peak heat index values running from 100°F to 105°F. South to southeast winds around 5 to 10 mph should keep the heat in place even where rain never shows up.
Holiday Heat Ahead
Saturday, July 4, 2026, looks even hotter, with highs near 99°F and only low rain chances. Most outdoor Fourth of July events should stay dry, but they will also be uncomfortably warm. If you are heading out for parades, cookouts, or fireworks, bring plenty of water, find shade when you can, and plan for breaks out of the sun.
Where To Cool Off
If you need relief from the heat, local cooling centers and city facilities are open during these hotter stretches. A recent roundup of cooling lifelines for Dallas and Fort Worth lists places to duck inside and cool down, check hours and locations before you head out.
Heat Safety
Try to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, drink water often, and keep an eye on older adults, children, and pets for signs of heat illness. Symptoms such as confusion, fainting, or a very high body temperature are red flags. Move the person to a cooler spot right away and seek medical help immediately.
