A late-night shooting tied to Mac's Corner Bar in Cleveland turned deadly early Monday, leaving a 19-year-old man dead and a 23-year-old man wounded as police flooded the scene.
What police say
Officers were called to the bar around 12:45 a.m. Monday for reports of a large crowd and shots fired. When they arrived, they found blood and a gun in the parking lot. Preliminary information suggests the confrontation started inside the bar and spilled outside. Nineteen-year-old Charles Clark was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle and later pronounced dead, while a 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg and listed in stable condition, as reported by News 5 Cleveland.
Where this fits in Cleveland's violence picture
The shooting comes as Cleveland continues to wrestle with gun violence. Cuyahoga County recorded 166 homicides last year, a drop from the pandemic-era peak. Local reporting has cited a mix of community violence-intervention efforts and changes in policing as part of broader attempts to push killings downward in the city, according to Cleveland.com.
Investigation ongoing
The Cleveland Division of Police says the investigation remains active and has not released additional details on suspects or a possible motive. News outlets did not report any arrests in the initial coverage, and detectives continue to process the scene. This story will be updated as authorities release more information, per News 5 Cleveland.
