Nico’s Bagels & Brunch is bringing its New York-style bagels to Edgewater on Thursday, July 9, opening a second Anne Arundel County shop with a side of serious generosity. The day starts with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m., followed by grand-opening service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The owners plan to present a $30,500 donation to a local suicide-prevention nonprofit during the ceremony, and the first 44 people in line will walk away with free breakfast sandwiches. To sweeten the deal, the Edgewater location will spotlight the Crabby Bagel throughout July, and first-time mobile customers can snag $5 off through the Nico’s app.
Where the New Shop Will Be
According to Eye On Annapolis, Nico’s is moving into the former Wendy’s at 100 Central Avenue in the South River Colony Center. The space sits in a strip-mall parcel that previously housed a K-Mart, and Eye On Annapolis reports the new shop will serve the same New York-style bagels and bagelwiches that have built the brand’s following.
Founders and the Nonprofit Mission
Nico’s Bagels & Brunch was founded by Jerry Osuna along with Dan and Joy Shields, with an explicit focus on mental-health awareness and building community, according to the company. Nico’s Bagels & Brunch and the Nico’s Hope For Life Foundation say that a portion of proceeds from the HOPE Bagel supports suicide-prevention programming and local resources, tying everyday breakfast runs to an ongoing charitable mission.
Grand-Opening Specials and Hours
Eye On Annapolis notes that festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with the ribbon cutting and check presentation, with doors officially opening for service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on opening day. The first 44 people in line will receive free breakfast sandwiches, and customers who download the Nico’s Bagels app can get $5 off their first mobile order. The Crabby Bagel, normally a weekend-only item, will be available all month in July, and the cafe is expected to operate daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. after the grand opening.
Local Context
The chain debuted its flagship location in the Waugh Chapel/Gambrills area in 2024 and has been active in local fundraising and community events since, according to local coverage. Patch notes that the original Gambrills shop opened with a strong community focus, and the Edgewater expansion keeps that same playbook in place.
