Extant Aerospace is turning up the heat on the Space Coast, breaking ground on a roughly 376,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Melbourne that company leaders say will boost local production and create about 200 jobs. Executives, construction partners, and local officials gathered this month for a ceremonial launch as crews moved in to start preparing the campus.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, the new plant will house expanded electronics and avionics operations for the Melbourne-based firm, which already works with major defense prime contractors. The outlet reported the square footage and job count after reviewing county filings and company statements.
Extant President Jon Page told local media the expansion strengthens the company’s ability to support military and commercial customers, calling it a move that will bring “new jobs and new opportunities” to the community. WESH also captured comments from Rep. Mike Haridopolos, who praised the investment as a win for Brevard County.
The company marked the milestone on its LinkedIn page, describing the project as a commitment to future growth, while general contractor FCL Builders posted that it will deliver a roughly 379,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing building. Extant Aerospace on LinkedIn and FCL Builders on LinkedIn shared the announcements this week.
Space Coast Momentum And Workforce Pressure
The project lands in the middle of a wave of aerospace investment and airport upgrades that local leaders say is reshaping the Space Coast’s industrial footprint. Recent state grants and expansion plans are aimed at boosting maintenance and MRO capacity and feeding a growing appetite for skilled technicians.
What’s Next For Extant And Suppliers
Extant says it will ramp up hiring to staff the new campus but has not released an estimated completion date, according to the company’s LinkedIn announcement. Local workforce and training groups note that projects of this size typically generate demand for assembly technicians, electricians and quality-control staff, roles the company and its partners will need to fill as construction and production move forward.
