In a brutal case that has stunned northern Wisconsin, a brown mixed-breed dog named Sunny was found shot multiple times along a roadside in Shawano County and is now at the center of an animal-cruelty investigation.
Sunny was discovered on July 15 near the intersection of Cedar Drive and Maple Road in the Town of Maple Grove and was rushed for emergency care. Local advocates say the dog remains under veterinary supervision while authorities try to figure out who pulled the trigger and why.
According to WISN, the Shawano County Sheriff's Office believes Sunny's injuries likely occurred about two to four days before the dog was found. The outlet reports there are no known witnesses or suspects at this point. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Shawano County non-emergency dispatch at 715-526-3111 or email [email protected].
After being found, Sunny was taken to Specialized Veterinary Care of Shawano for advanced treatment. The clinic's site notes it offers surgical and diagnostic services for serious cases. The facility, which operates urgent-care hours for major injuries, is located at 1380 County Road B in Shawano.
How to help
Sunny is now in the care of the Shawano County Humane Society, which is collecting donations to help pay for the dog's treatment and recovery. The shelter lists its address as 1290 Jaycee Ct and its phone number as (715) 526-2606 for people who want to offer support or share information.
Investigation details
Veterinary staff told WISN that Sunny had suffered eight gunshot wounds and a broken leg. Staff estimated that the dog is roughly eight years old and weighs about 35 pounds.
Investigators said Sunny's microchip is registered to an out-of-state individual. Authorities are working with the humane society to trace any previous owners and shelter records that might shed light on how Sunny ended up in Shawano County with such severe injuries.
Anyone with tips is urged to contact Shawano County non-emergency dispatch at 715-526-3111 or email [email protected]. Officials say information can be shared anonymously. The humane society notes that donations will help cover Sunny's continuing care while the investigation moves forward.
