Jacksonville rolled into the day under mostly clear skies and low-80s temps at sunrise, but the real heat is scheduled for later. A Heat Advisory is in effect today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so this is not the afternoon to test your limits outside. Forecasters say feels-like temperatures will surge into the triple digits.
Afternoon Heat And Gusty Winds
The high is expected to top out near 99°F, with heat-index values pushing about 108–112°F in parts of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. Southwest winds will run 5–15 mph with gusts up to around 23 mph, which will not do much to cool things down and could knock over unsecured items near the coast, according to the NWS Jacksonville.
Evening Storm Chances And Weekend Outlook
Relief might arrive in the form of some rain, but coverage stays limited this evening. There is a slight chance of showers and a few storms mainly between 7 and 9 p.m. Rain chances ramp up through the weekend, with Saturday carrying about a 50% chance of afternoon storms after 2 p.m. Sunday into early next week looks wetter, with storms likely and locally heavy downpours possible.
Where To Find Relief
The City’s Stay Cool Jax program lists libraries, pools and community centers that serve as daytime cooling locations when extreme heat events are activated. Call ahead for hours or check activation status before you head out. Details on cooling centers are available at Stay Cool Jax.
Beach And Marine Impacts
Late-day onshore winds will bump up a lower-end moderate rip-current risk and push surf to around 2–3 feet at northeast Florida beaches. Swimmers should follow lifeguard guidance and steer clear of rip currents. Boaters should be prepared for sudden gusts and brief squalls inside any passing storms.
