Friend's Welfare Check Uncovers Killing Inside Home

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded on Wednesday to a welfare check in the 5100 block of Lambs Lane after a friend reported not hearing from the man. While on the 911 call, the friend entered the home and found the victim, who was pronounced dead at 11:29 a.m.

Homicide detectives and forensic teams processed the residence and determined that the man died from multiple stab wounds, police said.

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Brings In Suspect

Sierra Rodriguez was arrested Thursday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and booked on a charge of first-degree murder, according to KEYE/CBS Austin. The station reports that investigators say Rodriguez stabbed the victim multiple times. Officials have not released a possible motive.

KEYE/CBS Austin also notes that the Austin Police Department has classified the case as the city's 31st homicide of 2026.

How Texas Treats A First-Degree Murder Charge

Rodriguez faces a first-degree murder charge, which is a serious felony under Texas law. Under the Texas Penal Code, murder is a first-degree offense that can be punished by five to 99 years or life in prison, while capital-murder statutes apply when specific aggravating factors are present (Texas Penal Code). Those sentencing ranges outline the legal exposure a defendant faces once charged.

Police Ask For Tips, Offer Reward

The Austin Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to call 512-974-TIPS or submit an anonymous tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers website. The department said a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest, according to its release.

APD listed the case number as 26-1750618 and encouraged residents to contact its Public Information Office with any new leads.
