
Gunfire rang out on the 2900 block of Knox Place SE Thursday evening, leaving a man and a woman shot and sending neighbors back inside their homes. D.C. Fire and EMS crews found both victims conscious and breathing, then rushed them to a nearby hospital, as officers spread through the Southeast D.C. neighborhood looking for a suspect who took off on foot.
Police: Masked suspect sought
The Metropolitan Police Department said the 911 call came in just before 8 p.m., and investigators are now searching for a man dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun, according to WJLA. The outlet also reported that both victims were transported by D.C. Fire and EMS and were conscious and breathing when medics left the scene.
Knox Place's recent pattern of violence
The 2900 block of Knox Place has been on law enforcement’s radar for years, with multiple shootings and at least one fatal case tied to the area. Reporting on a Knox Place homicide and a separate announcement from the U.S. Attorney's Office have previously linked the block to serious violence and wide-ranging narcotics trafficking.

MPD’s site notes that those lines are monitored 24 hours a day and that tips may be submitted anonymously. If you see a crime in progress, call 911 immediately.
No arrests had been announced as of the initial WJLA report, and detectives were still processing the scene. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or captured it on video to preserve that footage and share it with investigators through the department’s tip channels.
