The Riot Comedy Club is packing up its Montrose mic and heading for a much bigger home on Washington Avenue, with plans to reopen there this summer. Founder Brian Gendron says the new spot will let the club book larger lineups, roll out a full food and drink program, and double as a daytime café. Until the Washington Avenue club debuts in August 2026, The Riot will keep the jokes coming at its Conroe outpost.
Why the move
As reported by CultureMap Houston, The Riot is taking over roughly 4,700 square feet at 1925 Washington Ave, with plans to seat about 150 people once the doors open. In a statement to the outlet, Gendron said, "We're not just changing locations, we're building a dedicated venue for comedy that supports Houston's growing scene," framing the move as a shift to a more professional, hospitality-forward club.
What the new room will offer
The club's official site now lists the Houston location as "temporarily closed until we move to our new venue 1925 Washington Ave," and notes that the new space will feature full food and beverage service and ADA accessibility. The same update adds that the room will operate as a coffee shop and café during the day, giving the venue a daytime presence in addition to evening shows, per The Riot.
Shows, refunds and what to do now
According to CultureMap Houston, ticket holders for upcoming shows at Rudyard's will receive full refunds and will be invited to a complimentary show at the new Washington Avenue venue once it opens. In the meantime, the Conroe calendar lists headliners and weekly showcases through July and August, confirming the plan to keep shows rolling while the Washington Avenue build-out wraps up, per Riot Conroe.
Rising chain, local scene
The Washington Avenue move comes as The Riot grows beyond Houston. Axios San Antonio reported that the group recently opened a River Walk location in San Antonio, positioning the brand as a regional player. Local guides have cited The Riot as one of the city's key small rooms, and a larger, dedicated venue on Washington Avenue could make Houston a more frequent stop on national comedy tours while also supporting more regular local showcases, according to Houston.com.
Ticket holders should keep an eye on their email for refund details and invitations to the new venue. For the latest show calendar and tickets, check The Riot or the Conroe listings while the Washington Avenue room is under construction.
