An unexplained outdoor death on a normally quiet stretch of South Fairfax Street has Denver police keeping a close watch while the city’s medical examiner works to figure out what happened.
Officers responded to the 100 block of S. Fairfax Street and remained on scene as the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner evaluated the body and began the process of determining the cause and manner of death. Police said they will only send out another public update if the case is later classified as a homicide.
Police alert
In a brief post on X, the Denver Police Department said officers were working an outdoor death in the 100 block of S. Fairfax Street and that the medical examiner’s office would determine the official cause. The department also shared its police services number, 720-913-2000, and reminded residents that 911 is reserved for emergencies.
Medical examiner's role
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for autopsies and for issuing the official cause and manner of death after forensic testing is complete. According to the office’s Denver Office of the Medical Examiner case summaries page, information for cases of public interest is posted once identification and autopsy work are finished, which is typically when more details become available.
Context and recent pattern
So far this year, Denver police have put out a string of similarly terse “outdoor death” alerts across the city, with almost no immediate detail until the medical examiner completes its review. Hoodline has reported on several of those notices, including the Mystery Body on East 48th Ave case, which followed the same pattern of a short police alert and a wait for the medical examiner’s findings.
Anyone with information about the South Fairfax incident is asked to call Denver Police Services at 720-913-2000 or dial 911 in an emergency. This story will be updated if Denver police or the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner release additional details.
