Overnight, police officers were involved in a shooting in Northwest Baltimore, authorities said. The incident took place in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue, and the Maryland Attorney General's Office Independent Investigations Division was called to the scene early Saturday. At that point, officials had not released any additional details.
According to WMAR-2 News, officers were called to the area overnight, and investigators from the state's Independent Investigations Division responded. WMAR-2 described the situation as a developing investigation and reported that no names, injuries, or charges had been released at the time of publication.
State Investigators Step In
Per the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, the Independent Investigations Division (IID) handles police-involved deaths and incidents where police action leads to fatal or potentially fatal injuries. The OAG maintains a public list of active IID investigations across Maryland, including several in Baltimore City this year.
What Typically Happens Next
The IID's public guidance states that it will generally release the names of the decedent and involved officers within two business days and that body-worn and dashboard camera footage is typically released within about 20 business days. In recent cases, Baltimore Police has activated its Special Investigations Response Team and released body-worn camera footage as part of its own transparency efforts.
Baltimore Police have not released the suspect's or victim's names or described the detailed circumstances of the shooting, and investigators did not immediately say whether any officers were injured. Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Crime Stoppers or call 1-866-7LOCKUP. Hoodline will update this story as officials release additional details or records.
