A 42-year-old Pahrump man, identified by authorities as Dustin Yager, died Thursday, July 2, after his SUV veered off northbound State Route 160 and crashed into a median cable barrier near Las Vegas. Troopers found Yager unresponsive at the scene, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Nevada State Police closed the northbound lane near mile marker 32 while investigators worked the scene.
According to News 3 Las Vegas, troopers responded at about 11:35 a.m. to reports that a white 2022 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling northbound just south of mile marker 32 in the No. 1 travel lane when the driver failed to maintain the marked lane and drifted onto the left shoulder. The SUV’s left front struck the median cable barrier after entering the shoulder. Officers rendered aid at the scene before Yager was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released an official cause of death, which remains under investigation.
Investigation and Safety Context
The crash is being investigated by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team, officials said. State Route 160 has seen multiple serious crashes this year, with state police and local outlets documenting rollovers and pedestrian strikes along the Pahrump-to-Las Vegas corridor, including earlier incidents reported by KTNV. For broader crash statistics and safety resources statewide, ZeroFatalitiesNV aggregates Nevada traffic-fatality data along with prevention guidance.
What Investigators Say
Nevada State Police say the Major Incident Reconstruction Team is closely examining the scene and vehicle evidence to determine what led up to the crash. As News 3 Las Vegas notes, “the agency noted the data is preliminary and may change based on final investigations and coroner reports.” Troopers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dashcam video from the area around the time of the incident to contact Nevada State Police.
