An early-morning burst of gunfire on Milwaukee's north side left a 23-year-old man wounded and several parked cars damaged, as police combed the neighborhood for a shooter who slipped away before dawn.
What police say
Milwaukee police say officers rushed to the area of North 14th Street and West Groeling Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Monday after reports of shots fired, where they found a 23-year-old victim suffering from non-fatal injuries, according to WISN. The man was taken to a hospital.
On the block, officers spotted multiple vehicles hit by gunfire and zeroed in on a nearby home as part of their search, but they did not locate anyone inside, WISN reported. Police maintained a strong presence in the area as they canvassed for evidence and witnesses.
Neighbors describe the scene
Residents woke up to flashing lights and a flood of squad cars. One neighbor told WISN, "I jumped up, I looked out the side window, and I saw nothing but police coming from everywhere." Their account lines up with the rapid response officers described while they moved door to door, looking for anyone who might have seen or heard what happened.
Police ask for tips
Detectives say the case is very much active and are urging anyone with information to step forward. According to the Milwaukee Police Department, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS (8477), or online. Officers are also asking neighbors to share any videos or other potential evidence that could help identify the shooter.
No arrests have been announced, and the search for the suspect continues as investigators work through leads and examine the evidence gathered at the scene.
