Roland is about to plug straight into Manhattan's Meatpacking District, signing a lease for the ground-floor and lower-level space at 414 W. 14th St. for what it is calling its first U.S. flagship. The Japanese maker of synthesizers, drum machines and other music-technology gear is making a relatively rare bet on brick-and-mortar retail, bringing a decades-old instrument brand back onto New York's storefront grid. Brokers say the two-level setup could let Roland mix classic showroom sales with hands-on demonstrations and workshops tailored to the city's working musicians and bedroom producers alike.
According to CoStar, which reported the deal on July 16, 2026, the lease covers both the ground floor and lower level at 414 W. 14th St. Newmark's Michael Paster and Jenna Kestan are listed among the brokers on the transaction, with Bona Bernard of Midtown Commercial Real Estate also involved. CoStar identifies Ponte Gadea USA, Inc. as the landlord and notes that the brokerage team is hoping the Manhattan flagship will help bring back some of the neighborhood's long-lost "music row" vibe.
Staffing and in-store programming
Roland already appears to be staffing up for the new outpost. A public job listing for a "Retail Specialist - Roland" pegs the store as "Based at 414 W 14th Street, New York, NY 10014" and describes the project as a "first-of-its-kind flagship retail experience." The listing, which is posted on job platforms such as ZipRecruiter, outlines plans for hands-on demos, workshops and artist events that line up with Roland's in-store programming in other markets.
Why this matters for Meatpacking
Brokers quoted by CoStar say Roland's arrival could help restore some specialty music retail to a corridor that has lately leaned heavily into boutiques and experiential concepts. With its two-level footprint at 414 W. 14th St., the tenant is positioned to operate a destination showroom up top and a distinct demo or workshop space below, a configuration landlords increasingly favor for experience-focused retailers who want more than simple racks and registers.
Roland's broader U.S. push
The Meatpacking store is landing in the middle of a broader U.S. buildout for Roland. Earlier this year, the company opened a new U.S. headquarters in El Segundo in April 2026, describing the move in a press release as part of "deepening its connection to the U.S. music and arts community." That statement helps frame the New York flagship as another piece of the same strategy. The press release is available from Roland.
There is no public grand-opening date on the books yet. For now, the signed lease and active hiring notices point toward a Meatpacking flagship that doubles as both a high-profile sales floor and a community space for musicians, producers and students who want to get their hands on the gear instead of just scrolling past it.
