A violent head-on collision on State Route 31 north of Marysville turned into a deadly fireball today, leaving one person dead and four others in the hospital, authorities said. The wreck shut down parts of the highway as emergency crews knocked down flames and rushed to treat the injured.
According to NBC4, Marysville police said the crash happened at the intersection of State Route 31 and Mill Road and involved a black 2001 Ford Mustang and a white 2023 Honda CR‑V. The Mustang’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people riding in the CR‑V were taken to hospitals in Union County, and one juvenile was flown to a Columbus hospital for further treatment.
Scene And Emergency Response
First responders arrived to find the Mustang fully engulfed in flames and worked with crews from the Marysville Fire Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol to secure the scene, NBC4 reported. “The crash remains under investigation,” police told the station, as several agencies handled traffic control and transported patients from the rural intersection.
Crash-Prone Stretch Of Route 31
This section of State Route 31 has a troubling history. A September 2025 crash at the same junction was reported as One Dead, Another Injured, and the Marysville Journal Tribune also detailed a fatal two-vehicle wreck near Miller Road last year. Those earlier crashes have only sharpened long-standing concerns about safety along this rural highway corridor.
Investigation Still Active
Officials have not yet released the name of the Mustang driver, saying the identity will remain withheld until next of kin can be notified. Authorities said they plan to share more information as it becomes available. Marysville police noted that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information about the crash to contact the department through official channels.
