Rural roads in Rose Township turned into the staging ground for a major manhunt yesterday after a multi-jurisdiction police chase that started miles away and cut across several Oakland County communities before coming to a halt.
Officers from multiple departments converged near Rose Center Road and Hickey Ridge Drive, where deputies set up a heavy perimeter as they searched for a suspect who took off on foot after the pursuit ended.
How the chase snaked across Oakland County
According to CBS Detroit, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the pursuit began in Green Oak Township, then moved through Lyon Township, Milford and Highland Township before ending in Rose Township. Authorities have not said what initially triggered the chase.
Deputies warned residents in the Rose Center Road and Hickey Ridge Drive area to expect a significant law enforcement presence, telling people to lock up their homes and vehicles and to call 911 immediately if they spotted anything suspicious.
Milford patrol car tangled in crash
Milford police confirmed their officers joined the pursuit, which included a crash involving one of their patrol vehicles. Police Chief Scott Tarasiewicz told CBS Detroit that no one was hurt and that no civilian vehicles were involved in the collision.
Chase unfolds under tighter statewide rules
The incident played out as Michigan agencies adjust to tighter rules on when officers can hit the gas in pursuit. In 2024, the Michigan State Police revised its vehicle pursuit policy so that chases are limited to cases where officers have probable cause to believe a life-threatening or violent felony has occurred. Per the Michigan State Police, the change is aimed at cutting the risk to bystanders and officers during high-speed chases, and it has reshaped how local departments coordinate when a pursuit crosses multiple jurisdictions.
What investigators are saying so far
Authorities have not yet released the suspect's identity or said whether any charges have been filed. Deputies and detectives continued combing the Rose Township area into the evening, and officials are urging anyone with information to call 911 or contact local law enforcement with tips.
This story will be updated as more details become available from investigators.
