TK's Ice Cream & Sweets is sliding into downtown Fredericktown with more than just sprinkles on its mind. The new shop at 13 E. College St., co-owned by Todd and Kristine Lindeman, is set to scoop hard-dip ice cream, serve Coney Island-style hot dogs and double as a hangout spot for teens and families. As part of the build-out, the owners are putting in an elevator so the second floor can be used by customers of all abilities.

According to Knox Pages, the Lindemans have scheduled a ribbon cutting for Aug. 7, complete with face painting and a balloon artist. The outlet also notes the couple already juggle two other ventures, operating The Shoppe on Main in Fredericktown along with a roofing business in Lexington.

From Council Minutes To Main Street

Long before the ice cream freezers arrived, the idea for TK’s was on the public record. Fredericktown village council documents show the Lindemans purchased several downtown parcels in 2024, including 13 E. College St., and told officials they planned an ice cream shop and a place for teens to recreate, according to the village council minutes. The local tourism site Visit Knox County likewise lists TK’s at 13 East College Street in downtown Fredericktown.

Students, Local Suppliers And Accessibility

Knox Pages reports that two Fredericktown High School Project Lead The Way classes, Architecture Design and Introduction to Engineering Design, were pulled into the renovation process. More than 20 students helped present building-code options and patio ideas as the owners shaped the space. Kristine, who uses a wheelchair, told the paper that “access for all” guided the project and that an elevator is being added so the upstairs can be put to use.

The menu, Knox Pages notes, leans on local suppliers, featuring hard-dip ice cream from Round Hill Dairy and Coney Island hot dogs from Smithhisler Meats. Round Hill Dairy runs a farm-based ice cream stand in nearby Mount Vernon.

What It Could Mean For Downtown

The Lindemans say TK’s is intended to be more than a dessert stop. They hope it will operate as a community hub, offering flexible part-time jobs for young people and keeping spending on Main Street instead of sending it out of town. Sponsoring the youth baseball team and providing a safe hangout spot were already part of the plan as the couple wrapped up construction and prepared for next month’s ribbon cutting.
