
A high-speed police chase tore through Columbus' West Side early Tuesday, ending with three people in custody, including two juveniles, after officers say a reported stolen vehicle refused to pull over. The pursuit wrapped up near Sullivant Avenue and South Burgess Avenue when officers used tire deflation devices, and police say all three occupants bolted from the disabled car before being caught after a short foot chase. Authorities also reported recovering a loaded handgun from the vehicle that had been reported stolen.
According to WSYX, officers first spotted the vehicle at about 3:46 a.m. after it had been reported stolen out of Pickaway County. When the driver did not stop, police initiated the pursuit that ultimately led to the arrests. The station reports all three suspects have been charged with receiving stolen property, and identifies 18-year-old Marquise Curtis as additionally facing counts of resisting arrest and failure to comply.
Stop Sticks Brought The Pursuit To A Halt, Police Say
In a post on Facebook, the Columbus Division of Police said officers "deployed stop sticks to stop the fleeing vehicle and to prevent the continued risk to the public." The department noted that the devices worked, the car came to a stop near Sullivant Avenue and South Burgess Avenue, and the occupants then tried to run before being taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Charges, Evidence And Next Steps
WSYX reports that officers found a loaded handgun inside the car that was also listed as stolen. The suspects are described as two juveniles and 18-year-old Marquise Curtis, with all three charged with receiving stolen property, and Curtis additionally charged with resisting arrest and failure to comply. Police have not released additional booking details publicly.
