Two men were killed in separate early-morning shootings in Stockton, a deadly double that has detectives working two homicide cases with no suspects publicly identified yet, police said.
Officers were called out hours apart to different parts of the city and immediately launched homicide investigations after finding both victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to CBS Sacramento, the first shooting came in at about 12:15 AM along East March Lane near the Food 4 Less. Officers found a 42-year-old man who had been shot. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Roughly three hours later, around 3 AM, officers were sent to Montgomery Avenue near Amherst Drive after a second shooting. A 36-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound, police said. He was also taken to a hospital and later died, CBS Sacramento reported.
Police say the cases are not connected
Detectives do not believe the two scenes are related. Police confirmed that the two shootings are not connected, according to CBS Sacramento.
Investigators had not released any suspect descriptions or a possible motive in either killing. They said additional details were not immediately available.
Two neighborhoods, two crime scenes
The first shooting unfolded near the Food 4 Less on East March Lane, a busy commercial stretch of the city where late-night traffic is not unusual. The second scene was on Montgomery Avenue near Amherst Drive in a different neighborhood across town.
Neighbors and nearby businesses in both areas were still being interviewed as officers worked each scene and collected evidence.
Detectives still working the case
The Stockton Police Department said both homicide investigations remain active and that detectives are following up on leads. Officials have not released further details to the public and asked anyone with information about either shooting to contact Stockton police.
