Austin is starting Friday, August 14, near 80°F with thick humidity, and the air will heat up quickly under mostly sunny skies. The high is expected to reach 100°F, while the heat index could climb to 107°F during the afternoon.
Winds will blow from the south-southeast at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio. Rain chances remain slim at 8%, so most Austin neighborhoods should stay dry from morning through evening.
Triple-Digit Heat Takes Over The Weekend
Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 101°F and heat-index values as high as 109°F. Sunday could reach 102°F under sunny skies, with overnight lows only falling to around 77°F to 79°F.
The heat then holds through Thursday, August 20, with highs near 102°F on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before reaching 103°F Thursday. Rain chances drop to zero from Sunday onward, while light south winds offer little relief from the afternoon heat.
No Advisory, But Heat Safety Still Matters
No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in effect for Austin, but the extended stretch of heat still calls for caution. The City of Austin recommends drinking plenty of water, taking shade breaks, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and checking on neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat illness.
