Baltimore Police are asking the public to help identify a person photographed in connection with an unarmed commercial robbery that happened Thursday in the 800 block of East Fort Avenue. Southern District detectives released the image and are urging anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward.
According to a post from Baltimore Police, the robbery occurred on August 20 in the 800 block of East Fort Avenue, and the department says detectives are specifically seeking the identity of the pictured person. The block sits in Riverside, a South Baltimore commercial and residential corridor near Federal Hill and Fort McHenry, according to Zumper. Anyone with information is urged to contact Southern District detectives at 410-396-2499 or to reach out to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP, per the same police post. Baltimore Police noted their X/Twitter account is not monitored 24/7, so tipsters are directed to call the numbers provided rather than message the department directly.

A Block With a History of Robbery Reports
This is not the first robbery reported on that stretch of East Fort Avenue. In February 2023, Southern District officers responded to an overnight unarmed robbery in the same block after three young suspects confronted a resident on the sidewalk and stole vehicle keys, according to a local community Facebook post. Nearly a decade earlier, in November 2017, Baltimore Police arrested an 18-year-old suspect on Fort Avenue shortly after he allegedly robbed a victim of car keys at gunpoint in the same block, as reported by CBS News. Police have not said whether Thursday's robbery is connected to those earlier incidents.
The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Baltimore Police Department's Southern District, which is headquartered at 10 Cherry Hill Road in Brooklyn and covers 12.79 square miles across South Baltimore. Detectives there have been managing a busy stretch this month, with Hoodline previously reporting on Brooklyn gunfire crime scenes and a separate shooting investigation in Pigtown that unfolded during the same period.
How the Tip Line Rewards Work
Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland, an independent volunteer organization operating across Greater Baltimore, offers cash rewards of up to $2,000 for anonymous tips submitted via phone, online, or through the P3 Tips app that lead to an arrest and felony indictment, according to the Annapolis Police Department. The reward pool has municipal backing: Baltimore City allocated $100,000 in funding back in December 2021 to expand Metro Crime Stoppers rewards specifically to encourage residents to report crime tips anonymously, CBS News reported at the time.
Under Maryland Code, Criminal Law § 3-402, standard unarmed robbery and attempted robbery are felony offenses carrying a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in state prison, a penalty distinct from armed robbery, which can carry up to 20 years. If the pictured individual is identified and ultimately charged, that statute would govern potential sentencing exposure in the case.
Robbery Clearance Rates Outpace National Average
The appeal for public help comes as Baltimore Police continue to report broader gains against violent crime citywide. In a mid-year crime report released July 1, the department reported a 48% clearance rate for robbery investigations during the first half of 2026, well above the national average benchmark of 27.6%. The same report found Baltimore experienced a 23% drop in homicides during the first half of 2026 compared to 2025, continuing a multi-year decline in violent crime. Robbery cases like the one on East Fort Avenue still depend heavily on public tips and surveillance images to move forward, and police have not released additional details about the specific business targeted or what, if anything, was taken.
