Columbus is waking to clear skies and temperatures near 60 degrees Sunday morning, with mostly sunny conditions expected for much of the day. Highs should reach about 75 degrees, making for a notably comfortable late-August afternoon before a small chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 3 p.m.
Afternoon Wind And A Few Storms
Northwest winds will run 6 to 12 mph and may feel a little brisker through the afternoon. The chance of rain is only about 20%, and the National Weather Service Wilmington, Ohio, says the best odds for isolated showers and thunderstorms are along and north of the I-70 corridor.
Most outdoor plans should be able to proceed, but a passing shower or rumble of thunder could briefly interrupt the afternoon. Any lingering precipitation should taper off by early evening, with partly cloudy skies and a low near 55 degrees Sunday night.
Sunny Stretch Builds Through Midweek
Monday looks sunny with a high near 74, followed by another sunny day Tuesday near 77 degrees. Wednesday will be mostly sunny and warmer, reaching about 80 degrees, while overnight lows stay comfortably in the mid-50s to mid-60s.
Thursday Brings The Next Storm Chance
The warmup peaks Thursday with a high near 83 degrees and a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after the afternoon gets underway, according to the National Weather Service. Friday and Saturday should turn mostly sunny again, with highs around 81 and 80 degrees, respectively.
