A 68-year-old Cable woman suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Friday evening when the SUV she was driving failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a semi tractor-trailer at a rural Dodge County intersection, according to authorities. Two juvenile passengers in her vehicle sustained suspected minor injuries, and the truck driver was evaluated at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
The crash happened around 7:55 p.m. Friday at the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway W in the Town of Oak Grove, according to the Washington County Insider, which cited the Dodge County Sheriff's Office. The woman was driving a 2020 Ford Edge eastbound when she failed to yield from the stop sign and struck a semi traveling south, per the sheriff's office account relayed by the outlet. As reported by Lake Geneva News, the woman had been driving east on County Highway 8 before the Ford Edge hit the semi, which was headed south on County Highway P — a discrepancy in road names between the two accounts that has not been resolved.
The Cable woman and her two young passengers were taken to Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam before she was flown to UW Health University Hospital in Madison for further treatment, according to Lake Geneva News. UW Health's Madison campus operates the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level 1 adult trauma center in South Central Wisconsin, which explains the decision to transport her by air for the region's highest level of care for life-threatening injuries.
Semi Driver's Age Disputed Between Accounts
Accounts of the crash diverge on the semi driver's age. The Washington County Insider, citing Dodge County Sheriff's Office records, identified him as a 71-year-old Milton man who was evaluated on scene by EMS and released without hospitalization. Lake Geneva News, however, reported he is a 60-year-old Milton man who was not taken to the hospital. Both accounts agree he was uninjured enough to avoid a hospital transport.
Eight emergency response units and contracted agencies responded to the scene, the sheriff's office said, per the Washington County Insider — including Beaver Dam Fire Department and Paramedics, Juneau Fire Department/EMS, Burnett Fire Department, Horicon Fire/EMS, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Dodge County Emergency Response Team, and two towing companies. The crash investigation remains ongoing, according to the sheriff's office.
Same Intersection Saw a Fatal Crash Earlier This Year
This is not the first serious wreck at County Highway A and County Highway W. The same intersection was the site of a fatal motor vehicle crash on March 12, according to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office. And in June 2025, deputies investigated another major crash on County Highway A in the Town of Oak Grove, when a passenger car crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming semi. Hoodline previously covered a Reeseville farmer airlift after a separate semi collision on a Dodge County highway earlier this month.
The pattern fits into a broader rise in traffic deaths across the county. Wisconsin Department of Transportation figures show Dodge County recorded 15 preliminary traffic fatalities through mid-August, compared with 11 total fatalities in all of 2025 and 11 in 2024. Statewide, WisDOT preliminary numbers show 336 traffic fatalities through mid-August, up from 303 during the same period last year.
What Happens Next for the Driver
Under Wisconsin Statute § 346.18, failing to yield the right-of-way from a posted stop sign carries a mandatory four-point demerit against a driver's license, according to Grieve Law. Accumulating 12 points within a 12-month period triggers a mandatory license suspension under WisDOT rules. It remains unclear whether formal citations will be filed once the sheriff's office completes its crash investigation.
Dodge County and WisDOT have previously responded to dangerous rural intersections with physical fixes, including a roundabout built at County Highway P and State Highway 60 in nearby Rubicon after past high-speed crashes. Whether the Dodge County Traffic Safety Commission will consider similar upgrades at County Highway A and County Highway W has not been announced.
