Sean Ryan Pub, the Irish pub that has poured Guinness and served corned beef and cabbage in downtown Vero Beach since 2017, closed for good on August 18. In its place, the Theatre Plaza space on 14th Avenue is being converted into Vero Sports Bar and Grill, a concept promising more than 20 HD screens and a chef-driven game-day menu.

The pub's closure and the new concept were announced in a Facebook post from management, who framed the shift not as an ending but as “changing the game,” according to a report from Treasure Coast Newspapers. Vero Sports Bar and Grill is expected to open under that same banner, with the pub's owners promising an incredible draft lineup alongside the new screens and menu, per the same announcement.

Sean Ryan Pub originally opened at 2019 14th Avenue in March 2017 under Dave and Sheila Schweitzer, who partnered with Roger Lenzi, the owner of neighboring Italian restaurant Avanzare, according to Vero Beach 32963. At the time, it was recognized as the first Irish pub in Vero Beach to pair a full dinner menu with traditional Irish spirits and dishes like sausage rolls and reuben fritters, the outlet reported, marking a more elevated concept than a typical drinking pub.

A Landmark Spot in Theatre Plaza

The bar sits in Theatre Plaza along 14th Avenue in historic downtown Vero Beach, directly across from the city's old theater building, as noted by The Treasure Coast Foodie. That stretch of 14th Avenue functions as the central drag of Main Street Vero Beach, a historic district known for hosting monthly Downtown Fridays street parties with live music, local vendors, and dining, according to Visit Indian River County.

Corporate filings with the Florida Division of Corporations show that Sean Ryan Pub, LLC remains an active limited liability company as of August 2026, with Laurie E. Moreira listed as registered agent. That active status suggests the business entity behind the pub is continuing in some form even as the Irish pub concept itself has ended.

Filling a Gap in Downtown's Nightlife Mix

Downtown Vero Beach already has newer late-night options nearby, including Curfew at 1932 14th Avenue, which serves food and craft cocktails until 1 a.m. on weekends to support the corridor's nightlife scene. But a large-format sports bar has been notably absent from the pedestrian-friendly 14th Avenue strip, with existing options instead clustered elsewhere in the city.

Sports watch parties already draw a crowd in Vero Beach, with groups like the Buffalo Bills Backers gathering at Twisted Lime on South U.S. 1 and Philadelphia Eagles fans meeting at Grille on the Green at Mangrove Sands Golf Club, according to Vero Beach 32963. Other established sports bars in the area include Sandbar Sports Bar on 20th Street, which offers 34 beers on tap, and the oceanfront Mulligan's Beach House & Sports Bar, which has operated on Beachland Boulevard since 1997.

Downtown Vero Beach also sits about five minutes from Vero Beach Regional Airport, which expanded its regional passenger access in February 2026 with daily nonstop American Airlines flights to Charlotte, North Carolina, as Hoodline previously reported. That improved connection could bring more out-of-state visitors into the downtown dining district just as its newest sports venue gets ready for kickoff.
