Manteca Police Department marked a milestone decades overdue on October 7, celebrating a groundbreaking for its future headquarters at 682 S. Main Street. The current police station has operated out of a building constructed in 1976, back when Manteca was a far smaller city than the one its officers patrol today.

The celebration was shared in a video posted by the Manteca Police Department on Facebook, which called the project “50 years in the making.” The new headquarters is planned to include expanded space for officers, a dedicated area for 911 dispatch, training facilities, and space for K-9 operations.

A City That Outgrew Its 1976 Station

The current station building was constructed in 1976. California Department of Finance data cited by the Manteca Bulletin shows the city's population had grown to nearly 94,000 by 2025, making it the state's 82nd largest municipality. That figure marks the city's growth during the station's lifespan.

Measure Q and the New Headquarters

The new headquarters is being financed through Measure Q, the 0.75% local sales tax Manteca voters approved in November 2024 by a narrow margin of just 490 votes. The measure was pitched to voters as dedicated funding for police, fire, and street infrastructure.

Mayor Gary Singh, a chief political champion of Measure Q, was a central figure in the project's political history — a connection Hoodline detailed earlier this fall. Singh became Manteca's youngest and first Punjabi-American mayor after his 2022 election.

City officials expect a ribbon-cutting and grand opening for the new police headquarters in 2028. The current station building was completed in 1976, and construction is moving forward at the new site.
